MIU MIU’s F/W 2017 collection showcased a series of this season’s hottest trends and textures tucked between one common theme: fur. Amongst vinyl raincoats, blinding pastels and finely detailed beading, oversized coats, shoes, and colorful faux fur dominated the runway. The unmistakably winter collection fused practicality with avant-garde to create a paradoxical regime of outfits highlighting feminine beauty. Each piece adds life to clothing of an otherwise dreary season, utilizing floral imagery and motifs. The repeated addition of accessories such as saddle oxfords and patterns brought youthfulness while the jewels, broaches and snake skin purses balanced out the collection with maturity and taste.
Look 26, featuring model Kendall Jenner, exemplifies these dual narratives. Her simple black top clears the slate for her skirt made entirely from grey, black and pink strips of fabric emulating a budding garden. The elongated dark grey faux fur coat with green undertones and black buttons enhanced the body of the design and outlined the outfit, as the bold statement skirt draws in the eye. The purple satin Mary Jane heels made the outfit playful while Jenner’s slicked back hair and bleached eyebrows made the outfit more contemporary and professional.
If you’re interested in creating your own version of this design, you’ll want to begin with the simplest part: the shirt. This simple, long-sleeved $6 black crop top from Forever 21 is a staple piece in every fashion girl’s closet. For the skirt, trade the flora from MIU MIU’s skirt for a pink velvet like this $11 skirt from Forever 21. The version of the original is more socially acceptable, adds the same dichotomy of texture to the outfit, and it won’t break your sad college bank account.
For a coat similar to Jenner’s, check out this $36 piece from Missguided. The slender structure slims the figure while keeping the general simplicity of the outfit. And to top things off, these $40 suede Mary Jane heels from Easy Spirit will give the look maturity without looking completely old school.
To replicate Jenner’s hair, use a gel like this one from Tresemme to slick back the bob. Skip the contour and focus on the highlight in all major areas: cheekbone, forehead, middle of the chin, and under the eyebrow. Try this All Over Color Stick from E.L.F. which can double as a lipstick. And if you feel so compelled to copy Jenner’s bleached brow, Sally Hansen’s Creme Hair Bleach will give you the best and safest results.
