“This is technology. But with the lingerie, it’s intimate technology.” Karl Lagerfeld’s description of Chanel’s spring show was typical of him – a mad linguistic paradox.
Chanel Spring 2017 collection was full of yin and yang. Some pieces from the collection featured lace-trimmed silk underwear, structured tweed jackets and alien-suit-clad Chanel boots. The collection was a reference to the “intimate technology,” or the bond between every woman and her smartphone screen. It also reminded the audience of the modern technology-dominated world. Fashion isn’t linear anymore; this era of fashion proves that combing anything is possible. Chanel channels this message in a big way, with frothy chiffon sundresses and medallion necklaces, to crystal vibrant silk prints.
The first look is a simple black dress that was both classically elegant and a statement-maker.
The model wore a thin lace dress on the top that pleated at the bottom with a touch of black fur. Karl Lagerfeld paired the dress with a statement embellished satin belt, which makes the whole outfit pop. Instead of heels, the model wore a pair of silver flats.
The look is incredibly simple to recreate if you look for these pieces on a budget. You can find a thin lace black top, like this one from Macy’s for $34. It slightly deviates from the original Chanel top, with a v-neckline and spaghetti straps, but works well enough. The lattice design at neckline with lace trim adds an edge to the outfit also seen on the Chanel runway.
For the bottom part of the dress, look for a maxi pleated skirt, like this one from Charlotte Russe for $30. Accordion pleats sculpt this sleek maxi skirt in a lightweight, woven fabric. Lining keeps you covered, and a side zip seals the deal. Of course, one that comes with the fur is hard to find, but the look can still be charming and worn every day without the fur.
For the belt, feel free to choose whichever satin embellished belt that fits your personal style. JJ’s House has a range of options: thin or wide, satin or crystal ranging from $20-$30. The statement belt should be thick enough to connect the top and the skirt.
For the flats, any silver black cap flats will do. The pair from DSW are pretty close, except for the lock not on the Chanel flat.
Chanel S/S 2017 is all about the yin and yang that fuses boldness and effortlessness. Together, Chanel keeps their signature luxury appeal while adding a modern-day edge. People wearing this look will still exude an effortlessly chic and classy air without the Chanel-sized dent in your wallet.
