How to Transition Summer Staples for Fall

Summer loving and having a blast the first week back at NYU? Perhaps not so much for your killer wardrobe. In these last few weeks of summer, students are soaking up the sun and trying not to die from the unbearable heat, but all of that is about to change with the blink of an eye as the air becomes crisp and the leaves transform into magnificent orange hues. However, there’s no need to let all of those stylish summer finds go to waste. As pumpkin season rolls around the corner, leave the tough transitions to only starting class again by following these handy tricks:

Shorts

Don’t let the cooler temperatures keep you from working those legs. Shorts are versatile and timeless, so you can play around with them in many ways. If the air is a bit chilly, put on a baggy sweater and some over-the-knee boots. Stock up on opaque tights in a variety of colors and patterns, too. Tights paired with denim or leather shorts will give off a glossy and sophisticated vibe. Throw on some slick booties and you’re set to go.

Sundresses & Maxi Dresses

Put on a jean jacket with that bright boho sundress of yours while sliding on some ankle boots in place of your wedges. Cuff the sleeves off the jean jacket and maybe even add a belt for a finished look. A cropped black leather jacket would also work perfectly for an edgy appearance.

Sleeveless Collar Dresses

Those lovely summer dresses are too cute to ignore for another three seasons! Win the game by throwing on a draped cardigan. Add a thin belt with a cardigan to accentuate the waist and a heavy-knit scarf to keep warm and add an extra bit of texture. If it’s still warm enough, wear a cargo-style vest to pull it off as an autumn-inspired look — casual, feminine and fall-ready.

Short Sleeve Top

Dress up the light top that you depended on all summer to help you stay cool with a statement blazer and a pair of jeans. Play up the ensemble with chunky necklaces. This works whether  you’re going out at night or want to look professional. Another idea is to put on a turtleneck underneath! After all, autumn is all about layering.

Overalls

You can’t go wrong with a long sleeve turtleneck and tights — it works wonders. You can even utilize your overalls as a bottom by putting over a bulky sweater or heavy cardigan. Finally, for a grunge fall look, incorporate a red plaid flannel, white t-shirt and black wedge boots.

Sandals

Don’t look so skeptical. You can still wear these precious babies and give your toes some air in September by putting on some high-waisted bell bottom jeans and a sleek trench coat. The haters won’t be able to bring you down.

Though summer sadly doesn’t last forever, your summer staples can still be brought to life with just a couple of readjustments — wear your clothes with confidence throughout every season!
