The Lebanese designer, Zuhair Murad, creates six different collections per year. For the 2015 cycle of fashion shows, Murad presented resort, spring ready-to-wear, pre-fall, spring couture, fall ready-to-wear, and fall couture collections. Each with a distinct style, they all mix luxe adornment with sleek construction. The spring 2016 RTW collection, presented at Paris Fashion Week, kept to a nautical theme. He made it modern through utilizing combinations of red, white, and navy stripes. Details like rows of gold buttons or coordinating lace were layered on the stripes. Other prints included mirrored rose appliqués on sheer black lace or the same effect as a chiffon textile, and sequined kiss prints on sheer tulle. Of course the collection wouldn’t be complete without a few show-stopping gowns. Several sheer and strategically sequined black dresses strayed from the nautical theme, as well as a long sleeve sheer mermaid dress with gold lace appliqués, beading, and sequins.
This look embraces the flirty attitude with a youthful pairing of sequined prints. The mixed lip print tank top flatters when tucked into a circle skirt in complementary vertical barcode stripes. Paired with simple black heels with an ankle tie, this look is party ready without any need for accessories.
On a college budget, sometimes it’s okay to splurge on several reliable dressy pieces. Especially when the look includes details like sequins, fur, or beading, it’s best to opt for mid-range pieces that won’t fall apart on you. Above, Top 1, a comfy $16 tee from Forever 21, mimics the sequined lip print. Top 2 is a more casual crop for $26 from American Apparel. The neon colored lip print of Top 3 adds more of a punch, and is $12 from oasap.com. Also from Forever 21 for $16, Top 4 offers an iridescent sequined triangle print if kisses aren’t for you.
For skirts, the silver, white, and black sequined bodycon is a fun piece for $42 from Missguided. Skirt 2 features vertical stripes as a cute mini-skirt from brand Deby Debo for $85 on revolve.com. Skirt 3, a candy striped circle skirt, is also at a higher price point at $90 from the brand Show Me Your Mumu on swell.com. Skirt 4 is an easy to wear a-line silhouette from the Asos collection for $51.
Lastly, this look finishes off with trendy tied heels. All of the ones above are from various brands found on asos.com. A sandal style heel, Shoe 1 is $51 from the brand Dune. Shoe 2 is a pointed style with cutouts and is from the brand Truffle Collection for $54. Shoe 3 is basically the same style as Shoe 2, but in a dark navy suede, and is from the brand Faith for $99. The last option adds in a bit of faux snakeskin as a sandal style and are $91 also from the Truffle Collection.
