Timeless Male Style Icons

Being a male style icon is not just about the clothes one wears, but the feelings and emotions they project globally, which have a lasting effect universally on people. Three timeless male style icons that particularly stand out are Ralph Lauren, Mick Jagger and Elvis Presley.

Ralph Lauren is an American fashion designer, renowned for his clothing enterprise Ralph Lauren Corporation. One of Lauren’s famous pieces of clothing are his polo t-shirts, which have made him a household name all over the world, and become a global phenomena. Furthermore, Ralph Lauren represents the All American look from classic sweaters to denim and flannels. Ralph Lauren’s aesthetic is “lifestyle” which is what he exemplifies as well as sells to his consumers.

Mick Jagger is a British musician and a member of the Rolling Stones. Mick Jagger and the other members of the Rolling Stones defined the 1960s bad boy and rock star image. Jagger introduced the idea of long shaggy hair, accompanied by earrings and skinny jeans. Today, a majority of young men try to emulate this “bad boy” image with earrings, jeans hanging low which paired with solid colored t-shirts. Mick Jagger was one of the few people who would take huge risks in terms of fashion and became a major trendsetter. He introduced the jeans and t-shirt look in an innovative way, which are still evident today amongst males between the ages of 18-25.

Finally, Elvis Presley was an American singer and timeless style icon also known as the “King of Rock”. He loved experimenting with colors, leather jackets, suits, eye makeup, custom made jewelry and shoes.  His style was bold. He was not someone who would follow a crowd or try to be subtle. He began the trend of guys wearing the color pink, as he would wear pink belts, socks and shirts. After Presley, boys and men began to wear pink all the time — and not just at the country club. Elvis Presley focused on proportions and his hairstyle- the long hair pompadoured can be still seen today among many males. He also began the “ truck driver” style.   Overall, everyone has their own unique style, though being someone who is able to influence and create a lasting impact through the way one presents, and carries themselves in the pubic makes one a true style icon.
