Now that Paris and New York Fashion Weeks have come to a close, the world can focus on the 87th Annual Academy Awards. But as we have come to see, the gowns are only ever as good as the nominees. From American sweetheart Reese Witherspoon to the spunky Emma Stone, we’ve come up with gown predictions for the best actress and supporting actress nominees.
Julianne Moore: Still Alice star, Julianne no stranger to the red carpet and after winning at the Golden Globes, she’s looking like a shoo-in for the category. She looked impeccable the other week in an ombre sequin number by Givenchy Haute Couture and there is no doubt she will stun again. With her history of shimmery art-deco designs the Elie Saab couture collection is looking just like her style, but maybe even a little more glam for this high-level nomination. This sheer black detail-oriented number is looking like just the one.
Reese Witherspoon: Although she was roughing it in Wild this year, Witherspoon will most likely stick with her Old Hollywood glam style that keeps her as one of America’s sweethearts on any red carpet she attends. One of her favorite designers, Zac Posen, has a stunning red mermaid gown from his spring collection that looks like it was made just for Witherspoon. Red, mermaid, bold, beautiful, and one of her favorite designers; it would be a shock to see her in anything else.
Rosamund Pike: After her incredible and shocking Gone Girl performance and her daring Vera Wang gown at the Golden Globes, Pike will definitely be wearing a skin-showing, slinky, provocative dress. She has been generally consistent with her color schemes — dressing in all neutrals — so the velvety plunging Valentino gown from the label’s most recent collection seems to be right up her alley.
Marion Cotillard: As Lady Dior herself, it doesn’t take a genius to guess who she’ll be wearing this year for her nomination in Two Days, One Night. The floral spring collection will give this gorgeous French muse the perfect youthful poise.
Felicity Jones: Felicity Jones leaves the gown choice a bit up in the air. Jones played the heart wrenching character, Jane Hawking in The Theory of Everything. She loves to wear big name designers such as Dior, Dolce&Gabbana, and Balenciaga. This pink Chanel number from the latest spring show in Paris would definitely be another big hitter to add to her list. This pink jeweled gown has the perfect balance of innocence and class that Jones is known for.
BEST SUPPORTING ACTRESS
Meryl Streep: Streep, who is nominated for Into the Woods, always looks for elegance and fun on the red carpet that she is oh so familiar with. She’s not afraid to dress outside of the box, and she always has an air of dignity and grace. She’s been wearing Lanvin for the past three ceremonies so it wouldn’t be a surprise to see her in that again. However, her signature big skirted look red carpet look would be well dressed by Carolina Herrera spring collection.
Laura Dern: A favorite for the win for her performance in Wild, Dern will definitely be stepping up her red carpet game in anticipation. She tends to favor a warmer color palette and sparkly accents. The Versace collection is definitely red carpet oriented and it would not be a surprise to see a number of the dresses on the runway on Dern. However, the red sweetheart bodice with jewel embellishments has her name all over it.
Kiera Knightly: The mother-to-be and nominee for The Imitation Game is always a wild card when it comes to fashion. But after her endorsement deal with Chanel it would be a shock to see her in anything else. This fun Chanel gown with pleated chiffon is just eclectic enough to make Knightly happy. The gown will perfectly show off her baby bump while keeping with her unconventional fashion style.
Patricia Arquette: Nominee for the film, Boyhood, Arquette will be sure to go with conservative classic lines that show off her figure without showing too much skin. This Donna Karan dress will stay true to her LBD obsession while giving her traditional trend a modern twist.
Emma Stone: Finally, last but not least, Emma Stone had everyone stunned and totally in love with her sparkly jumpsuit at the Golden Globes. But one thing is for sure, Stone could wear just about anything. This risqué and classy Valentino gown would keep her both fashion forward and fun. This look shows just enough skin, but the silhouette is a red carpet classic. And of course the emerald hue would look stunning next to Stone’s fiery locks.
