High Fashion, College Wallet Special: Oscars

With the Oscars quickly approaching, it is always fun to look back on some of the best looks from past years. 2011 had quite a few stunning red carpet looks, but actress Mila Kunis’ lilac lace Elie Saab gown was certainly one of the most striking. Romantic and glamorous, this fresh look was absolutely stunning, and with a few changes it can be made into an equally glam everyday ensemble.

A key element to this outfit is color and fabric. To emulate this ensemble, Tobi.com has a “Cross My Lace Back Top” ($22) that combines this fantastic shade of lilac with a nod to the sheer floral lace detail on th dress.  Break up the romantic look with a pair of jeans—boyfriend for a super casual feel (try Express’s “Ankle Rolled Boyfriend Jeans” for $69.90), or skinny for a more polished look (try American Eagle “Skinny Jeans in Dark Indigo” for $29.99).

Kunis’ jewelry is simple yet it shines and adds a pop of shimmer to her face. Charming Charlie’s “Cosmo Dangle Earrings” ($8) could almost pass for Kunis’ and are certainly a cost effective alternative. Charming Charlie also has a “Brilliant Idea Cocktail Ring” ($13) that works well with the ensemble. Trade in Kunis’ nude clutch for nude flats like Macy’s Nine West “Blustery Pleated Flats” ($59) or nude booties like Steve Madden’s “Nonstop Natural Leather Peep Toe Booties” ($99).

As for hair and makeup, Kunis keeps it light and feminine. To achieve her loose and wavy updo, part the hair to one side and curl sections away from the face. Twist into a messy chignon. For the makeup, keep it simple: light foundation and a pale coral blush (Stila’s Custom Color Blush in Coral, $20). For the eyes, sweep a bit of coral eyeshadow across the lids, and blend a warm medium brown at the outer corners (try Lancôme‘s Color Design 5 Pan Eyeshadow Palette in Coral Crush, $50). Line the top and bottom lash lines in black kohl eyeliner like Rimmel London’s Soft Kohl Kajal Eyeliner ($4.05), and finish with black mascara (Maybelline Great Lash, $6.09). A pinkish-nude lip gloss completes the look—try Bobbi Brown lip gloss in Buff ($25).

When executed, Kunis’ romantic ensemble translates well into a fresh daytime look that is perfect for the upcoming spring weather.
